China says strengthened quarantine measures for arrivals "should not affect exchange and cooperation"
Wang Wenbin, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson
"Must Be Scientific and Appropriate"
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] The Chinese government stated that the quarantine measures for arrivals from China announced by the Korean government on the 30th should not affect exchanges and cooperation.
Considering the worsening COVID-19 situation in China, the Korean government decided to restrict the issuance of short-term visas, excluding diplomatic/public service, essential business, and humanitarian reasons, until the end of next month. Additionally, until the end of February next year, COVID-19 testing will be mandatory before and after entry for arrivals from China, and entry will only be permitted upon confirmation of a negative test result.
Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a regular briefing that regarding the Korean government's strengthened quarantine measures, "China consistently believes that each country's quarantine measures should be scientific and appropriate and should not affect normal personnel exchanges and cooperation."
Spokesperson Wang added, "Recently, health experts from several countries have scientifically analyzed and judged that entry restrictions on arrivals from China are unnecessary," emphasizing, "Many countries have welcomed China's efforts to facilitate personnel exchanges and have announced that they will not impose measures on arrivals from China."
