Railroad Corporation Begins Production of Rail Milling Vehicle... Targeted Introduction in April 2024
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Rail Network Authority has completed the design of the rail milling vehicle and will begin production. The rail milling vehicle is being introduced to advance track maintenance work.
According to the Rail Network Authority on the 29th, the rail milling vehicle is a work vehicle that cuts or grinds damaged rails into chip form. It is designed to enable more efficient work than existing methods and environmentally friendly maintenance by generating less metal powder and dust from grinding.
It also offers advantages such as improved ride comfort and extended rail lifespan.
This equipment, being introduced for the first time on high-speed and conventional railway lines, aims to mechanize track maintenance work and improve maintenance quality under the government’s “Railway Facility Maintenance Equipment Modernization Plan,” thereby creating a safer train operation environment.
The rail milling vehicle will be manufactured by Linsinger in Austria and is scheduled to be introduced on-site by April 2024 after domestic performance verification and test runs starting December next year.
