Jeonnam Province, First Forestry Direct Payment Issued... Expecting Stability in Forest Household Management
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 28th that it will pay 8.3 billion KRW in forestry direct payments to about 4,000 forestry workers.
With an average of 2.07 million KRW per person, it is expected to stabilize forestry household management and improve income.
The ‘Forestry and Forest Public Interest Direct Payment System,’ implemented for the first time this year, is a system that pays direct payments to forestry workers who comply with the obligations to enhance the public functions of forests and woodlands and to protect and manage forests.
To receive the forestry direct payment, forestry workers must actually engage in forestry, have a comprehensive income amount excluding agriculture of less than 37 million KRW, meet rural residence and other requirements, and the forest land must be registered as an agricultural management entity by September 30 of this year.
The forestry direct payment consists of a small-scale direct payment of 200 million KRW paid per forestry household unit, area direct payments and silviculture direct payments of 6.3 billion KRW and 1 billion KRW respectively paid per forestry worker (including corporations), and 800 million KRW to be paid for both area and silviculture.
Jeonnam Province received applications for forestry direct payments from July to October and made efforts to prevent fraudulent claims through staff training, joint inspections, and strict eligibility screening.
Kim Jaegwang, Director of the Forest Recreation Division, said, “The payment of forestry direct payments is the result of the efforts of all forestry workers who worked hard from the enactment of the law to the implementation of the system,” and added, “We hope it will help improve forestry household income and stabilize forestry operations.”
