[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ‘PGA star attraction’ Kim Joo-hyung (photo) has become the owner of the ‘Best Shot of the Year’.
Golf Digest USA on the 24th (local time) included Kim Joo-hyung’s name among the top 15 shots of this year’s PGA Tour. The shot selected by the media was made during the Presidents Cup Fourball match in September, a men’s golf competition between the USA and the International team.
Kim Joo-hyung teamed up with Kim Si-woo and made about a 3-meter birdie putt against Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele (both from the USA), followed by a powerful celebration. It was not so much the shot itself that was remarkable, but the impressive celebration that earned it a place among the ‘Best 15 Shots of the Year’.
Golf Digest highlighted, "Kim Joo-hyung’s birdie putt that defeated the US team gave the International team tremendous momentum," adding, "It was a very much needed moment on this stage."
Kim Joo-hyung has been featured in every article reviewing the PGA Tour this year. At the beginning of the year, Kim did not have PGA Tour membership, but he won back-to-back titles at the Wyndham Championship in August and the Shriners Children’s Open in October. His world ranking was around the top 100 at the start of the year, but now he is ranked 15th, the highest among Asian players.
