A Specialized Emotional and Behavioral Treatment Rehabilitation Center for Youth to Open in Gwangju
People Power Party Gwangju City Party Establishes Cooperation System with City... Secures 1 Billion Won for Design Fees
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] A specialized treatment and rehabilitation center for adolescents in Gwangju and Jeonnam experiencing emotional or behavioral difficulties will be established in Gwangju.
The Gwangju City Party of the People Power Party (Chairman Kim Jeonghyun) announced on the 23rd that the 2023 government budget newly includes 1 billion KRW for design costs out of the 16 billion KRW budget for the construction of the National Gwangju Youth Treatment and Rehabilitation Center, securing the national project.
The National Gwangju Youth Rehabilitation Center is scheduled to open in 2027, with design services starting next year.
This project, fully funded by the national government, is a youth welfare facility that provides dormitory-style treatment and rehabilitation services including counseling, treatment, protection, and independence support for adolescents from the Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeju regions, helping them grow into healthy members of society.
It is expected that adolescents from Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeju will be able to receive systematic treatment and rehabilitation services.
The project was initially promoted by Gwangju City since 2018, but after difficulties such as failing in the public contest, the Gwangju City Party of the People Power Party actively took the lead.
Kim Jeonghyun, Chairman of the Gwangju City Party, and Kim Sunok, Director of the Gwangju City Women and Family Education Bureau, actively promoted the necessity of the new construction in Gwangju to the party leadership including Seong Iljong, Policy Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, National Assembly standing committees, Budget and Accounts Committee members, and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, requesting support at the central party level.
Last month on the 15th, the Gwangju City Party held a policy meeting at the National Assembly with the People Power Party Policy Committee, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and Gwangju City, proposing the inclusion of the budget for the construction of the Gwangju Youth Treatment and Rehabilitation Center.
Chairman Kim Jeonghyun of the city party said, “The wishes of adolescents, parents, and citizens in the Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeju regions have been fulfilled,” adding, “Since we have secured the budget for the construction of the National Gwangju Youth Treatment and Rehabilitation Center with difficulty, we plan to actively support the smooth progress of this project at the party level together with Gwangju City and local youth organizations.”
