In response, Gangwon Province and Chuncheon City issued a joint statement.
On the 21st, Kim Jin-tae, Governor of Gangwon Province, and Yuk Dong-han, Mayor of Chuncheon City, held a press conference at the Gangwon Provincial Government Office to present a regional development blueprint for the areas that were not selected for the relocation of the Gangwon Provincial Government Office.
Governor Kim Jin-tae stated in the statement, "I expect that the newly launched Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province will have an opportunity to make greater strides," and added, "As the Governor of Gangwon Province, I humbly accept the decision of the site selection committee and will actively promote the construction of the new provincial government office."
He emphasized, "The construction of the new office is not simply a relocation of the provincial government office; it has historical significance as it will be the first time in 126 years since the Gangwon Provincial Observatory was established at the current location in 1896 (the 33rd year of King Gojong's reign) that the location is being moved."
He continued, "The relocation of the office should enhance the convenience of use for the residents of Gangwon Province and serve as a groundbreaking turning point for the development of Chuncheon, the provincial capital city. We plan to build an administrative complex town including the provincial government office on approximately 1 million square meters around 443 Goeun-ri, Dongnae-myeon."
Regarding the areas that were not selected, he also expressed the intention to promote customized development projects that leverage the unique characteristics and strengths of each region.
Governor Kim said, "All the areas that were not selected will serve as important hubs for the development of Chuncheon City and Gangwon Province, and customized development projects will be promptly promoted in line with the construction of the new office."
The construction of the Gangwon Provincial Government New Office is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2026 and be completed in the second half of 2028.

Mayor Yuk said, "We respect the decision of the 'Gangwon Provincial Government New Office Site Selection Committee' and promise active administrative support and cooperation to ensure that the new provincial government office is constructed smoothly within the planned timeframe."
Mayor Yuk stated that Dongnae-myeon will be developed into a new city in the southeastern area of Chuncheon. Centered around Goeun-ri, where the complex administrative town will be located, the 'triangular belt development' connecting the Dawon district and Hakgok district will be implemented, and urban planning will be adjusted to allow the city to expand toward the southeast direction.
The Sinchoncheon and Hakgokcheon streams in Dongnae-myeon will have their ecological functions reinforced, and a 'prison site utilization plan' will be established in preparation for the integrated relocation of the prison and juvenile detention center.
The areas around Geunhwa-dong and Soyang-dong will be fostered as 'new growth hubs of Chuncheon,' and the 'old Camp Page development,' which has been stalled for over 10 years, will be promoted as a space where 'advanced industries' and 'culture' coexist.
Mayor Yuk also said, "The Chuncheon Station area development project will be solidified in its basic plan in connection with the old Camp Page development, and Chuncheon Station will grow in function as a 'complex transfer center.'"
He plans to create a 'Job-Space-Fun' (職-宙-樂) area centered around Chuncheon Station and systematically develop it as an optimal location for workation.
