The 5th Police System Development Committee Meeting Held... Discussions on National Police Commission and Police University

At this meeting, discussions were held on the National Police Commission and the reform of the Korean National Police University, along with reports on the results of the 2nd meeting of the Field Security Subcommittee and improvement plans for police organization and personnel systems.
First, the discussion on the National Police Commission was conducted as the first agenda item. At this session, the committee compared and reviewed major legislative contents related to past National Police Commissions and analyzed the key achievements of the National Police Commission to date. Additionally, through comparisons with overseas police commissions, a discussion on the role of the National Police Commission was held.
Regarding the second agenda item, the reform of the Korean National Police University, differences were analyzed by comparing the police-related departments of the Korean National Police University and general universities. In relation to the reform of the Korean National Police University, the committee reviewed the university's opinions and decided that the university would submit its position and related materials in response to the committee members' questions by the next meeting.
Furthermore, this meeting included reports on the results of the 2nd meeting of the Field Security Subcommittee and on improvement plans for police organization and personnel systems.
Meanwhile, aside from the official agenda, the meeting also included a report on the collection of opinions regarding police law and system improvements related to the Itaewon tragedy, followed by a free discussion among committee members. As a result of the discussion, there was an opinion that the legal and institutional framework for the Minister of the Interior and Safety to exercise command and supervision over the police has not been established, and it was decided to discuss this in the next meeting.
