Seoul National University and Korea University See Slight Decrease in Additional Admissions Compared to Last Year
Seoul National University Has More Additional Admissions in Natural Sciences, Yonsei and Korea University Have More in Humanities
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] In the 2023 academic year college admissions early decision recruitment, it was revealed that about 130 students at Seoul National University and about 2,000 students combined at Yonsei University and Korea University gave up their enrollment despite being accepted.
According to Jongno Academy on the 20th, the first round of additional successful candidates for early decision at Seoul National University in the 2023 academic year was 138. This is 13 fewer than last year (151).
There were 112 in the natural sciences, 20 in the humanities, and 6 in the integrated selection for colleges outside the quota, with the natural sciences having more than five times the number of additional successful candidates compared to the humanities.
In the natural sciences, among the 40 recruits for the College of Nursing, 12 (30.0%) were additionally accepted; among the 37 recruits for the Department of Biological Sciences, 11 (29.7%); among the 70 recruits for the Department of Mechanical Engineering, 9 (12.9%); and among the 26 recruits for the Department of Applied Biological Chemistry, 8 (30.8%) were additionally accepted.
In the humanities, there were 2 (2.6%) in the Business School, 2 (4.5%) in the Department of Political Science and International Relations, and 2 (14.3%) in the Department of Social Welfare, with none in the College of Medicine and College of Dentistry. Additionally, there were 4 additional successful candidates in the pharmaceutical sciences and 1 in veterinary medicine.
The first round of additional successful candidates at Yonsei University and Korea University totaled 2,068.
Yonsei University had 827, an increase of 48 from last year (779), while Korea University had 1,241, a decrease of 75 from last year (1,316).
Both universities had more additional recruitment in the natural sciences than in the humanities. The scale of additional successful candidates was 465 in natural sciences and 350 in humanities at Yonsei University, and 654 in natural sciences and 574 in humanities at Korea University.
At Yonsei University College of Medicine, 26 out of 66 recruits (39.4%) gave up enrollment, and at Korea University College of Medicine, 42 out of 81 recruits (51.9%) gave up enrollment.
At Yonsei University, 85.4% (35 students) of the Department of Computer Science, 64.3% (72 students) of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, at Korea University, 74.6% (53 students) of the Department of Computer Science, and 67.1% (55 students) of the Department of Mechanical Engineering early decision successful candidates did not enroll.
Hanyang University had 826 students (480 in natural sciences, 301 in humanities) who gave up enrollment, a decrease of 28 from last year's 854.
Dongguk University had 514, 20 fewer than last year, and Ewha Womans University had 602, 2 fewer than last year (600).
According to Jongno Academy, the number of early decision recruits in the Seoul area for the 2023 academic year was 46,287, a decrease of 1,269 (2.7%) from last year (47,556).

Last year (2022 academic year), the total number of early decision recruits in the Seoul area was 47,556, a decrease of 3,986 from the previous year's recruits (51,542), and the number of early decision rollovers also decreased by about 1,288 to 1,800.
