KCSC Issues Administrative Guidance to MBC and SBS for Sensational Reporting on Itaewon Tragedy
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] The Korea Communications Standards Commission has decided to issue a 'recommendation,' an administrative guidance measure, to MBC and SBS for sensational reporting related to the Itaewon tragedy.
On the 19th, the Commission held a plenary meeting at the Broadcasting Hall in Mok-dong, Seoul, and resolved to issue a 'recommendation' to MBC TV's 'MBC News Special Report' and SBS TV's 'SBS News Special Report,' which aired sensational videos related to the 'Itaewon tragedy,' raising concerns about human rights violations of victims and others.
According to the Commission, these broadcasters aired scenes of victim rescue at the accident site without applying any blurring effects.
Additionally, for two broadcast programs that excessively promoted products through commercial expressions in indirect advertising, the Commission decided on a legal sanction of 'caution.'
