BMW Officially Launches the New 7 Series in Korea
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] BMW Korea announced on the 16th that it will officially launch the new 7 Series, BMW's flagship sedan, in the domestic market.
BMW's flagship sedan, the 7 Series, was first introduced in 1977. The new 7 Series being launched domestically this time is the completely redesigned 7th generation model. Additionally, the lineup will include the BMW New i7, the first pure electric model in the 7 Series.
The new 7 Series has increased in length by 130mm, width by 50mm, and height by 65mm compared to the previous generation long-wheelbase model. The front and rear wheelbase has also been extended by 5mm to 3215mm, providing a more spacious interior.
The separated headlights at the front feature a ‘ㄱ’ (giyeok) shaped Swarovski crystal light in the upper unit, which functions as daytime running lights and turn signals. This feature, called BMW Crystal Headlight Iconic Glow, creates a sparkling jewel-like effect when unlocking the doors.
The adaptive 2-axle air suspension, standard on all models, adjusts the vehicle height to an optimized position according to speed and driving mode, offering excellent stability and ride comfort.
The New i7 xDrive60 model is additionally equipped with Executive Drive Pro, which actively controls body roll. Executive Drive Pro, including Active Roll Stabilization (ARS) and Active Roll Comfort (ARC) functions, operates based on a separate 48V electric motor located in the suspension, maintaining the vehicle’s balance even in corners. Furthermore, all models come standard with BMW Integral Active Steering, which steers the rear wheels up to 3.5 degrees, providing convenience in parking as well as outstanding high-speed driving stability.
The BMW New 7 Series comes standard with a rear-seat BMW Theater Screen on all models. The BMW Theater Screen, which unfolds from the ceiling, is the world’s first in-vehicle entertainment system featuring a 31.3-inch panoramic display with a 32:9 aspect ratio. It includes built-in OTT platforms such as Netflix and YouTube, allowing direct operation without connecting external devices, and supports up to 8K resolution. Additionally, it supports playback of external device content via HDMI connection, enabling use as a mobile meeting room.
The front seats feature a curved display composed of a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display, along with the BMW Interaction Bar, which applies crystal design and various Shy Tech concepts. The BMW New i7 is equipped with BMW Iconic Sound Electric, an exclusive sound system for electric vehicles.
The new 7 Series applies numerous premium convenience features that maximize a luxurious atmosphere, transforming the interior into a premium lounge-like space.
For the first time, all models of the new 7 Series are equipped with an automatic door function that allows the front and rear doors to open and close automatically. Doors can be opened and closed by button operation from outside or inside the vehicle, and the driver can open or close the doors individually or all at once from the driver’s seat. The rear seats come standard with the ‘Executive Lounge’ on all models. This seat offers a more comfortable and spacious seating experience with optimized seat angles and increased headroom compared to before.
The newly launched 7 Series is available in two models: the pure electric New i7 xDrive60 and the mild hybrid New 740i sDrive.
The BMW New i7 xDrive60, equipped with BMW’s 5th generation eDrive system, delivers a maximum output of 544 horsepower from two electric motors and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. It features an electric all-wheel-drive system with an actuator wheel slip limitation device (ARB), providing optimized traction in any situation. The high-voltage battery with a high energy density of 105.7 kWh enables a combined driving range of 438 km on a single charge.
The BMW New 740i sDrive is the first in the 7 Series lineup to apply a 48-volt mild hybrid system. The BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine harmonizes with the mild hybrid system to produce a maximum output of 381 horsepower and a peak torque of 55.1 kg·m. It is equipped with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.
