Sporty Exterior Inheriting GTI's Unique DNA
Delivering Ultimate Dynamism and Supreme Comfort
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Volkswagen Korea announced on the 15th that it has officially launched the 8th generation model of the iconic hot hatch Golf GTI, the ‘New Golf GTI,’ in Korea and will begin full-scale customer deliveries starting today.
Sasha Askizian, President of Volkswagen Korea, stated, “The New Golf GTI is a hot hatch model that offers domestic consumers an opportunity to experience a higher level of driving dynamics with its heritage-inspired design, innovative technology, and GTI’s unique driving sensibility,” adding, “With outstanding product quality and a reasonable purchase price, the New Golf GTI will reestablish itself as a distinctive model in the domestic compact sports car market.”
The New Golf GTI is equipped with the most advanced EA888 evo4 2.0 TSI high-performance turbocharged direct injection gasoline engine, delivering a maximum output of 245 horsepower and a peak torque of 37.8 kg.m. Coupled with a 7-speed DSG transmission optimized for sporty driving and quick shifts, it offers drivers an exhilarating driving experience. The official fuel efficiency of the New Golf GTI is 11.5 km/l combined, 10.1 km/l in the city, and 13.9 km/l on the highway.
The New Golf GTI features a ‘Dynamic Chassis Control System’ that integrates electronic stability control (ESC), adaptive chassis control (DCC), and electronically controlled hydraulic front differential lock (VAQ).
The New Golf GTI inherits the sleek lines of a hot hatch and the core DNA of GTI to complete a sporty exterior design. The front features the New Golf GTI’s design signature, the ‘Honeycomb Style Grill Air Intake,’ the exclusive ‘GTI Red Strip,’ and the ‘GTI Red Chrome Lettering,’ highlighting the presence of the Golf GTI. The ‘GTI Red Strip’ harmonizes with the LED light strip that runs from the LED headlights through the radiator grille to the VW badge, creating Volkswagen’s distinctive lighting signature.
Additionally, the front black spoiler, black side sills, GTI-exclusive red brake calipers, and 19-inch Adelaide alloy wheels further emphasize the sporty character of the GTI.
The interior of the New Golf GTI exudes GTI’s sporty sensibility while offering a more digitalized user experience. Vienna leather premium sports seats with Tornado Red line accents, the GTI emblem on the steering wheel, black metal chrome decorative trims, and the engine start button that flashes in a pulsating red color all express the unique sporty charm of the GTI.
Moreover, the 10.25-inch high-resolution digital instrument cluster, ‘Digital Cockpit Pro,’ displays basic information such as driver assistance systems, driving speed, and fuel gauge, along with GTI-exclusive graphics. It also provides performance data essential for sporty driving, including instantaneous power output, engine boost pressure, and a lap timer.
The 10-inch ‘MIB3 Discover Pro’ system includes Korean navigation and voice control, supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and offers wireless smartphone charging. Additionally, the ‘Windshield Head-Up Display’ and an intuitive ‘Touch Lighting Control Panel’ enhance driver convenience.
Other convenience features favored by domestic customers include ventilated front seats, heated front and rear seats, a touch-type leather multifunction sports steering wheel with heating and paddle shift functions, 3-zone Climatronic automatic air conditioning, rear seat temperature control panel, and ambient lighting with 30 color options.
Furthermore, the New Golf GTI is equipped with the state-of-the-art driver assistance system ‘IQ.Drive’ for a comfortable and safe driving environment. One of the core technologies of IQ.Drive, ‘Travel Assist,’ is an advanced feature that actively assists driving with a single button press at speeds up to 210 km/h. ‘Travel Assist’ integrates adaptive cruise control, lane assist, side assist, and other driver assistance systems, operating through front cameras, front and rear radar sensors, and ultrasonic sensors.
The New Golf GTI is equipped with one of the most advanced automotive lighting technologies, the interactive lighting system ‘IQ.Light - LED Matrix Headlamps.’
LEDs arranged within the left and right headlight matrix modules analyze data from the front camera, GPS signals, steering angle, and vehicle speed to illuminate a wider range of the road with light optimized for driving conditions. This allows the driver to enjoy high nighttime visibility without affecting the vision of other drivers.
