Autonomous Vehicles Park Themselves Even in Indoor Parking Lots... Demonstration Event in Sejong
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Sejong Special Self-Governing City announced on the 13th that on the 14th, they will hold a demonstration event for address-based autonomous valet parking and autonomous robot charging services at the transfer parking lot in the 2nd living zone of Sejong City.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Sejong City aim to prove through this demonstration that autonomous valet parking and electric vehicle charging using autonomous robots are possible even in indoor parking lots by utilizing object addresses. They also expect to expand autonomous driving services nationwide by leveraging object address information assigned to parking lots across the country. Until now, indoor parking lots were considered part of buildings and lacked separate addresses and electronic maps, making autonomous driving-based services impossible.
Following last year's outdoor parking lot service model, Sejong City has been promoting the establishment of an indoor parking lot autonomous valet parking and autonomous robot charging service model since March this year through a Ministry of the Interior and Safety public contest project. Autonomous valet parking works by the driver getting off at the boarding and alighting point within the parking lot and commanding parking via an autonomous valet parking app, after which the autonomous vehicle parks itself in an empty parking space. To use the autonomous robot charging service, one must park in the indoor parking lot and enter the parking space address into the autonomous charging app. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to supplement the developed service model and provide it to companies, as well as expand the construction of indoor parking lot data centered on major buildings.
