Street Dancers and Webtoon Artists Also Receive Welfare Support for Artists
Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Implements Revised 'Guidelines for Proof of Artistic Activities'
The scope of genres covered by the 'Guidelines for Certification of Artistic Activities' has been significantly expanded. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 9th that it will implement a revised version including newly added genres. The newly added genres are street dance, broadcast dance, music videos, webtoons, web novels, audiobooks, and picture books. Each of these has recently emerged as a major genre in K-Culture or has rapidly grown thanks to the increase in non-face-to-face online activities. A ministry official stated, "Although it was interpreted that artistic activities could be certified under the existing guidelines, this explicit clarification makes the criteria clearer and reduces confusion in the field," adding, "We expect greater consistency in the review of artistic activity certification." Artists in these fields can receive various welfare support benefits such as creative preparation funds and living stabilization loans once their artistic activities are certified.
