Daejeon City Reduces Road Pothole Damage Compensation by 75% Compared to Last Year
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City has reduced damage caused by potholes through proactive road maintenance.
According to the city on the 6th, this year, 5,182 pothole reports were received, a decrease of more than 35% compared to 8,383 reports last year.
As pothole reports decreased, compensation amounts for damages also declined compared to the previous year. This year, there were 77 claims for compensation related to potholes amounting to 7 million KRW, which is more than a 75% decrease compared to 307 claims totaling 30 million KRW last year.
Potholes occur due to cracks caused by the deterioration of old roads, and as the damage expands, they become causes of traffic accidents, vehicle damage, and injuries. Therefore, proactive road maintenance is considered crucial.
Accordingly, the city's Construction Management Headquarters conducted a full inspection of road damage after the thawing period and summer rainy season, focusing on repairing sections that required maintenance.
In particular, for proactive road maintenance, the entire managed road network (619.546 km) was regularly patrolled. Minor or immediately repairable damaged areas were promptly fixed using in-house personnel, while larger pothole areas were divided into three zones and quickly repaired through contracted annual unit-price companies.
As a result, the Construction Management Headquarters explained that the scale of pothole damage and compensation this year was significantly reduced.
