KT Skylife "Subscribe to Netflix Ad-Supported Plan on TV"
First Paid Broadcasting Set-Top Box Enables Easy Subscription
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] KT Skylife announced on the 1st that customers can now easily subscribe to Netflix's ad-supported plan on the Skylife Android set-top box.
The Netflix ad-supported plan, "Ad-Supported Basic," launched domestically earlier this month, offers a monthly subscription fee of 5,500 KRW and includes ads before and during content playback. It is approximately 4,000 KRW cheaper than the existing Basic plan.
Skylife is the first in the domestic pay-TV market to introduce a subscription service for Netflix's ad-supported plan. Other companies allow general subscriptions but do not support subscriptions to the ad-supported plan.
Unlike the requirement to visit Netflix's official website via PC to subscribe to the ad-supported plan, Skylife users can enter Netflix through the Netflix button on the remote control or via the TV home menu and subscribe to the Ad-Supported Basic plan.
Netflix subscription fees are billed together with Skylife usage fees. Once logged in, the login remains on the set-top box until another ID is used to log in. Additionally, accounts subscribed through the Skylife set-top box can use the ad-supported plan on other devices such as mobile phones and PCs besides the TV.
