View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] The Korean Federation of Women’s Science and Technology Associations announced on the 28th that it held its regular general meeting at the Korea Science and Technology Center on the 25th and elected Professor Kwon Onam of Seoul National University’s Department of Mathematics Education as the next president. President-elect Kwon earned his Ph.D. from Indiana University in the United States and has been working as a professor for over 20 years at Ewha Womans University and Seoul National University. He has served as director of the Seoul National University Women’s Research Institute, non-standing director of the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, and president of the Korean Society of Mathematical Education.
President-elect Kwon will take office in January 2024 and serve a two-year term. He stated, “The driving force behind innovation in science and technology lies in the spread of a culture of diversity and inclusion, and the science and technology community needs to make continuous efforts toward this.” He added, “The Federation of Women’s Science and Technology Associations will strive to become an organization that plays a leading role in the advancement of women scientists and technologists and in progressive social change.”

Meanwhile, founded in 2003, the Federation of Women’s Science and Technology Associations is the largest organization of women scientists and technologists in Korea, encompassing 79 women’s science and technology associations across natural sciences, engineering, environment, energy, medicine, and other fields, with approximately 80,000 members.
