"No Decisive Moment" Uruguay Media Regrets Draw
First Match with a Bland Flavor
Uruguayan media expressed disappointment over the goalless draw in the opening match of Group H in the 2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup. On the 24th, Uruguay faced South Korea at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar, ending the match without any goals. Despite having two decisive chances, all their shots hit the goalpost.
Uruguay is ranked 14th in the FIFA rankings, higher than South Korea's 28th place. They are considered superior in terms of technique, organization, and experience. Uruguayan media, expecting a victory, could not hide their disappointment at the unexpected result.
The local daily El Pais wrote in an article titled "A bland flavor in the first match," stating, "Uruguay seemed to generally control the game, but there were no decisive moments." El Diario Deporte also criticized the dulled offensive power, saying, "They were dominant, but it was a match without glory or pain." However, they praised the defense, noting, "They relatively well contained the bold and fast South Korean attack, including Son Heung-min (Tottenham)."
