Upstage Holds Talk with Canadian Minister of Science and Economy... Laying the Groundwork for Global Expansion
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] AI startup Upstage met with Fran?ois-Philippe Champagne, Canadian Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, who visited Korea, laying the groundwork for entry into the global AI market.
On the 24th, Upstage CEO Kim Seong-hoon attended the 'Korea-Canada Business Roundtable with Fran?ois-Philippe Champagne, Canadian Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development,' hosted by the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), where they discussed cooperation plans to promote mutual growth between companies of the two countries.
Canada is recognized as a technology powerhouse surpassing Korea in various global AI competitiveness indices, and is considered a key investment destination for AI, gathering excellent talent and technology such as Professor Geoffrey Hinton, the pioneer of deep learning. Upstage plans to actively discover AI solution demands from Canadian companies using its world-class technology and gradually establish a foothold for global market expansion.
In particular, Upstage attracted attention as the only startup selected among the participating companies that day. Within just two years of its establishment, it was invited to the Canadian ministerial event as a leading representative of Korea's AI industry alongside major corporations such as Samsung, Hyundai, Hanwha, POSCO, and Kakao.
Upstage has demonstrated its technological prowess by publishing numerous outstanding papers at international AI conferences including NeurIPS, AAAI, ACL, and EMNLP, and by becoming the first Korean company to win double-digit gold medals on Kaggle. Recently, it also achieved the highest domestic ranking in an AI recommendation competition hosted by ACM RecSys, one of the most prestigious conferences in the recommendation system field.
