Jeonnam Province Provides Additional 2.6 Billion KRW Special Tax Support for Drought Relief in Wando and Sinan
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province actively requested special drought response grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing 2.6 billion KRW, and announced that it will urgently provide an additional 1.6 billion KRW to Wando-gun and 1 billion KRW to Sinan-gun, where water rationing is being implemented due to prolonged drought.
The 1.6 billion KRW allocated to Wando-gun will be used today for the installation of mobile seawater desalination facilities in six eup and myeon areas including Nohwa, as well as for operating water supply lines and water supply vehicles.
The 1 billion KRW allocated to Sinan-gun will be used as drought countermeasure funds for installing two seawater desalination facilities in Ha-ui, Sinui myeon, and Daedun-do in Heuksan-myeon, as well as one emergency connection pipeline.
Since March, Jeonnam Province has provided 1.5 billion KRW in reserve funds to island areas such as Nohwa, Bogil, and Neopdo in Wando, where water rationing has been implemented, and to Sinan areas experiencing drinking water shortages.

Seo Eun-su, Director of the Environment and Forestry Bureau, said, “We hope that the 2.6 billion KRW in special drought response grants provided to Wando-gun, where water rationing is in effect, and Sinan-gun, which is experiencing drinking water shortages, will alleviate residents’ inconveniences even a little. Moving forward, we will promote securing alternative water resources such as wells and seawater desalination in drought-affected areas like Wando and Sinan. Additionally, we will vigorously carry out a ‘20% Water Saving Campaign’ together with households, large water consumers such as golf courses, swimming pools, bathhouses, and companies.”
