"Annual Mobility Production of Up to 145,000 Units by 2026"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Min-jae] Daedong Mobility, a subsidiary of Daedong Group, announced on the 23rd that it has completed the construction of the 'S-Factory' on the site of the Daegu National Industrial Complex, capable of producing up to 145,000 smart mobility units annually.
Daedong Group declared its entry into the smart mobility market and began construction of the new mobility factory in November last year. With an investment of approximately 90 billion KRW and one year of construction, the factory was completed this month. The S-Factory covers a site area of 102,265㎡ (about 31,000 pyeong) and a total floor area of approximately 30,000㎡ (about 9,100 pyeong).
According to Daedong, the S-Factory is equipped with a high-level production environment and process technology based on excellent product design, manufacturing, and small-lot multi-product production capabilities. It features a future-oriented smart factory system optimized for Daedong Mobility by introducing ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), MES (Manufacturing Execution System), and supply chain management, enabling a flexible production system. In this regard, Daedong has established a comprehensive control room to monitor the entire production process in real time and plans to continuously implement measures to maximize production efficiency and manufacturing quality by collecting and analyzing all generated big data.
In terms of production efficiency, electric Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) were adopted to allow flexible responses according to production volume. Unlike the conveyor belt production method with fixed production lines, AGVs enable variable operation of production lines, allowing rapid changes in production models. Another advantage is the ability to expand production capacity in response to increased volume.
Regarding manufacturing quality, kiosks and monitors provide workers with instructions on work methods and quality control information. Basic assembly values are automatically set at each major process, and smart electric tools have been introduced to enhance quality excellence. Additionally, a driving test track has been installed in the factory to conduct basic driving tests on all produced products.
The S-Factory initially operates two lines: an E-scooter line with an annual production capacity of 35,000 units, and a mixed production line capable of producing up to 20,000 units annually, including golf carts, sub-compact tractors, riding lawn mowers, and electric trucks. By 2026, three additional lines will be added to produce 0.5-ton electric trucks and smart robot chairs, establishing a maximum annual mobility production capacity of 145,000 units.
With the completion of the S-Factory, Daedong Mobility has established a solid foundation for full-scale product production, following the building of core competencies such as product design and development, key technology development, production and quality management, sales network, and customer management and service. This is seen as a significant step toward becoming a specialized mobility company.
Kim Joon-sik, Chairman of Daedong Group, stated, “The S-Factory holds a significance beyond just a springboard for a quantum leap as a future agriculture leading company. We will grow Daedong Mobility into a ‘lifestyle-oriented mobility company’ that provides customers with freedom of movement and enrichment through innovative smart mobility products that are easy for anyone to use, making everyday life happier.”
