New Confirmed Cases 23,091, Down from Last Week... 465 Severe Cases, Highest in 61 Days (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Byun Seon-jin] The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 21st at midnight that 23,091 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total cumulative number of confirmed cases to 26,581,856.
The number of new confirmed cases decreased by 20,346 compared to the previous day (46,011) due to the weekend testing effect. It also decreased by 660 compared to a week ago on the 14th (23,751), marking the first decline in six weeks since October 10 (8,974) based on Monday's confirmed cases. The number of confirmed cases on this day increased by 4,426 compared to two weeks ago on the 7th (18,665), but has been decreasing for four consecutive days since the 18th compared to the previous week.
Regarding the recent decrease in confirmed cases over the past few days, the health authorities stated that the number of new confirmed cases "is showing a stagnation and a temporary slight decrease trend," but they forecast that "the number will maintain an increasing direction for the time being and fluctuate."

The number of critically ill patients increased by 14 from the previous day (451) to 465, the highest in 61 days since September 21 (494). There were 35 additional COVID-19 deaths, bringing the cumulative total to 30,066. As of midnight on this day, the additional winter vaccination rate is 17.3% for those aged 60 and over and 17.6% for infection-vulnerable facilities.
