View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 20th that "the budget for public rental housing has been restored to its original state" and pledged to exert efforts during the formulation of next year's budget to ensure that "the state becomes a support for vulnerable groups."
On the same day, Lee said on his Facebook, "On the 16th, the Democratic Party restored the budget for public rental housing, which the government had cut, during the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee (Land Committee) budget subcommittee."
He said, "Due to the economic downturn, the housing stability of low-income citizens is being threatened," adding, "It is a time when urgent measures are needed to reduce the housing cost burden on vulnerable groups and for the state to step in to guarantee housing stability."
He continued, "The government rather cut the budget for public rental housing, which plays an important role in stabilizing housing for ordinary citizens, by 5.6 trillion won," and emphasized, "Although difficulties are expected due to opposition from the government and ruling party, the Democratic Party will do everything possible to restore the budget necessary for the lives of the people."
He also said, "We will focus on securing budgets that can reduce housing cost burdens, such as interest support for jeonse and monthly rent deposits for low-income homeless people," adding, "In this way, the state will protect the lives of the people, and next year's budget will become a support for vulnerable groups facing crisis."
