Hyundai Motor Group Ranks No.1 in CSR Development Index for Automotive Sector in China for 7 Consecutive Years
High Scores Achieved Through Community Contribution
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 20th that it has been ranked first in the automobile company category for seven consecutive years in the ‘2022 China Corporate Social Responsibility Development Index Evaluation’ released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
The Corporate Social Responsibility Development Index is the most authoritative and influential CSR evaluation indicator in China. The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences comprehensively assesses companies' management status and information disclosure levels regarding social responsibility and publishes the rankings annually.
Hyundai Motor Group has ranked first among automobile companies and second among foreign-invested enterprises for seven consecutive years since 2016, and it also recorded third place overall in the corporate rankings for the second consecutive year.
In this evaluation, Hyundai Motor Group was highly recognized for continuously strengthening ESG management and conducting social contribution activities in China.
Following the establishment of China-specific ESG evaluation standards last year, Hyundai Motor Group used these standards this year to assess major subsidiaries in China, including Hyundai Motor, Kia, and Hyundai Mobis.
Additionally, from June to November, the group conducted training for all employees of its subsidiaries operating in China to raise ESG awareness.
As part of its social contribution activities, the ‘Hyundai Green Zone’ project has been working on desertification prevention in Inner Mongolia for over ten years since 2008. This year, it succeeded in greening approximately 200,000 pyeong of alkaline dry lake into grassland.
Moreover, Hyundai Motor Group operates a youth startup support center opened in Beijing in 2020, supporting startups that can contribute to solving social issues in China, and continues various social contribution activities such as hosting charity events exhibiting paintings by children with cerebral palsy.
