[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The ‘Ulsan Currency Expo,’ the only currency collection exhibition in Korea, will be held for the first time at the Ulsan Exhibition & Convention Center (UECO) for three days from the 18th to the 20th.
The expo opening ceremony will take place on the 18th at 2:30 PM at the Ulsan Exhibition & Convention Center (UECO), attended by about 20 people including Mayor Kim Du-gyeom, representatives from the Qatar Embassy, the head of the Bank of Korea Ulsan branch, the director of business technology at the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation, and the vice president of Poongsan.
This expo features participation from 35 companies across 5 countries and offers themed exhibition halls, invited lectures, currency auctions, and various events and side activities awaiting visitors.
The themed exhibition halls are organized into ‘World Banknotes Special Exhibition,’ ‘3,000 Years of Eastern and Western Coins,’ and ‘World Cup Special Exhibition.’
The ‘World Banknotes Special Exhibition’ displays currencies used in 206 countries worldwide, allowing visitors to experience the history and culture embedded in each country’s currency.
‘3,000 Years of Eastern and Western Coins’ showcases the history of coins used since the 10th century BC.
Visitors can enjoy a 3,000-year journey through time, from classical Eastern coins modeled after everyday items to the evolution into round-shaped coins, and from Western Greek and Roman era coins to modern coins.
Additionally, the ‘World Cup Special Exhibition,’ prepared in conjunction with the 2022 Qatar World Cup, features commemorative coins from the 11th 1978 Argentina World Cup to the 22nd 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Especially on the 18th, there will be a ‘2022 Qatar World Cup Official Commemorative Coin Photo Session’ involving the Qatar Embassy, offering a meaningful time not only for currency collectors but also for sports enthusiasts.
The special ‘Currency Auction’ commemorating the Ulsan Currency Expo will be held on the 19th from 11 AM to 4 PM, with 434 rare currencies up for auction.
Items ranging from Joseon Dynasty currency to modern and contemporary coins will be exhibited.
Invited lectures are also prepared to engage visitors with various stories about currency.
Topics include ‘World Travel through Currency,’ ‘In Search of the Secrets of Money,’ ‘Counterfeit Currency Detection Stories,’ and ‘Happy Asset Management,’ covering a wide range from currency history to wealth management and investment.
Finally, events for visitors include daily activities such as ‘Find the Golden Ball,’ stamp tours, quick banknote counting, stacking 10-won coins, and blindfolded money handling.
In particular, the ‘Find the Golden Ball’ event, which awards one don of gold, will be held daily from 3:30 PM for one hour, targeting 200 winners selected by lottery from the day’s attendees.
For visitors using public transportation, a shuttle bus will operate every 30 minutes from KTX Ulsan Station to the venue.
Pre-registration for attendance was accepted until the 16th, but visitors who missed pre-registration can register on-site and attend for free.
