View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] North Korea described Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party, as a 'superhuman' and urged residents to demonstrate patriotism and dedication. This is interpreted as propaganda aimed at strengthening internal unity and preparing for prolonged sanctions, considering the expectation that the U.S. government's North Korea policy, which leads the international community's trends, will not change significantly.
The Workers' Party organ, Rodong Sinmun, stated on the 18th in a front-page editorial titled "Let us elevate our national supremacy to a nationwide ideological sentiment and create a new spirit of the era," that "We are now on the path to building the world's greatest power," and "More severe difficulties may lie ahead, and the tasks to be accomplished are vast."
It continued, "(North Korea is) a dignified and powerful country that has amassed an invincible and immense national strength that no one dares to challenge," and argued, "The prestige of a country shining on the international stage is not eternal just because it was once attained."
By asserting that the current situation, where the U.S. leads the international community and North Korea faces sanctions, can change at any time, it appears to soothe residents' dissatisfaction. Also, amid expectations that the Biden administration's North Korea policy will not change significantly, this is read as propaganda to strengthen internal unity and prepare for prolonged sanctions.
Furthermore, the newspaper emphasized, "To significantly increase comprehensive national power, the entire people must fully demonstrate patriotic dedication and create a new spirit of the era," adding, "When the entire people vigorously engage in the struggle to create a new spirit of the era at workplaces and posts, the republic's status and influence will be more powerfully displayed worldwide, and the construction of a socialist ideal country will be accelerated."
It went on to claim, "The reason our republic can overcome fateful national crises and severe challenges and rise as a global power is inseparable from the devoted leadership of the respected General Secretary, who has perfectly solved unprecedented transformative tasks and major state affairs with superhuman energy," and "When the entire society further fosters an atmosphere of absolute loyalty to the General Secretary's ideology and leadership, a new spirit of the era will be created."
