Hyundai Motor Company to Launch 'The All New Grandeur' on the 14th
Jang Jae-hoon, President of Hyundai Motor Company, is introducing the vehicle at the new Grandeur launch event held online on the 14th.
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hyundai Motor Company launched the new model of the Grandeur mid-to-large sedan on the 14th. It is the 7th generation complete redesign model, introduced six years after the 6th generation model was released in 2016.
The company stated that without accepting separate pre-orders, about 109,000 people who had shown intent to purchase the existing model have decided to receive the new car delivery. Even if one contracts now, the delivery time will be around the end of next year or the year after.
The body and space have been lengthened and enlarged, while the integrated horizontal lamp structure and the rear design emphasizing volume give a grand impression. The overall length is about 5,035 mm, 45 mm longer than before, making it the longest in its class. The wheelbase and rear overhang have increased by 10 mm and 50 mm respectively. The horizontal LED lamp is an integrated structure combining DRL positioning lamps and turn signal functions.
The grille features a parametric pattern that gives a strong impression. Frameless doors, flush door handles, and slim rear combination lamps are also notable design elements. The Calligraphy trim has differentiated exclusive designs and specifications. Additionally, there are five types of design wheels ranging from 18 to 20 inches, and the optional 20-inch high-luster sputtering wheels are inspired by the wheel design of the 1st generation Grandeur.
The interior reflects a Korean aesthetic. A 12.3-inch large screen cluster and navigation system are integrated into one unit on the front interior, and a 10.25-inch large touch-type integrated climate control controller is located at the lower center. The column-type electronic shift lever has been moved closer to the steering wheel, freeing up space in the center console of the front row. The one-spoke style steering wheel is derived from the 1st generation Grandeur. Ambient mood lamps at the edge of the crash pad emit various colors depending on the situation.
Exterior colors inspired by Bangjja Yugi (traditional Korean brassware) and bamboo include Organic Bronze Matte and Bamboo Charcoal Green Pearl, representing the new car. Sustainable technologies have been applied, including antibacterial artificial leather treated inside and out, naturally dyed Nappa leather, and eco-friendly pigment colors.
The new car is the first to be equipped with the infotainment system ccNC (connected car Navigation Cockpit). The scope of wireless software updates (OTA) has been greatly expanded. Drivers can add or improve various functions at their preferred time and place without visiting a service center. The world’s first e-Hi-Pass, which allows toll payments on toll roads without a physical Hi-Pass device by linking with CarPay, has been applied.
The built-in cam is also a new version. It includes an ultra-high-definition QHD resolution camera, voice recording, support for large external micro SD memory cards, easy video checking via the BlueLink app, and smartphone video viewing through built-in Wi-Fi. Fingerprint recognition enables access, ignition, and electronic payments. A Bose premium sound system has been applied.
The ANC-R noise reduction technology measures road noise generated in the vehicle and generates real-time anti-phase sound waves to cancel out the noise. Additionally, sound absorption tires, separate carpets, triple sealing structures, and double laminated soundproof glass enhance quietness. Convenient features include the driver’s ergo motion seat and relaxation comfort seat, rear reclining and ventilated seats, and rear power door curtains.
The hybrid model applies E-Motion Drive, which enhances driving performance through the drive motor. The company explained that this allows for both smooth ride comfort and dynamic performance.
The car is available with four engine options: 2.5L and 3.5L GDI gasoline, 3.5L LPG, and 1.6L gasoline turbo hybrid. Especially, the 3.5L, hybrid, and LPG models feature new engines that improve fuel efficiency and power performance. The climate control system includes a photocatalyst module that generates sterilizing substances through visible light and photocatalytic reactions to remove harmful gases and odor-causing substances, and a UV-C sterilization function inside the front console that removes harmful bacteria from masks, keys, gloves, and more.
Various safety and driving assistance features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot View Monitor, and Highway Driving Assist 2 have been applied. Front, side, and rear parking distance warnings use 3rd generation ultrasonic sensors, expanding the warning area from front and rear to the sides. The warning display stages have been subdivided from 3 to 10 levels. The front seat center side airbag is the first in its class. Remote diagnosis service, which detects faults in advance and provides quick maintenance services based on collected data, is introduced for the first time by Hyundai Motor Company.
Hyundai Motor Company plans to offer monthly and daily subscription products for the new Grandeur through its car subscription platform ‘Hyundai Selection.’ Full-scale sales begin on the 15th, and customers can see the actual car at branches and dealerships nationwide. Initially, the 2.5L and 3.5L gasoline and LPG models will be delivered, with the hybrid model to be delivered once related notifications are completed.
