Cannes-Heated 'Daeum Sohee' Wins Special Jury Prize at Tokyo Filmex Festival
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] "Next Sohee," the first Korean film to be selected as the closing film of the Critics' Week at this year's Cannes Film Festival, has brought good news from Japan.
On the 14th, Twin Plus Partners announced that "Next Sohee" (directed by Jung Juri) received the Special Jury Prize at the 23rd Tokyo Filmex Festival, held from October 29 to the 6th. The festival praised the film, stating, "This film offers a thoughtful reflection on how life and other values are sacrificed in this ruthless world, shedding light on the mechanisms of human exploitation."

The film depicts the story of high school student Sohee (Kim Si-eun), who goes on a field internship to a call center and the incidents she experiences, along with detective Yujin (Bae Doona), who questions these events. The film features the debut actress Kim Si-eun and actress Bae Doona working together. Previously, it was invited to more than 15 film festivals including the BFI London Film Festival, Ghent Film Festival, Hong Kong Asian Film Festival, and Hawaii International Film Festival. It is scheduled to be released in early 2023.
