Commissioner Kim arrived at the funeral hall around 7:40 p.m. and paid his respects for about 20 minutes, consoling the bereaved family. After the condolence visit, Commissioner Kim left quickly in a car waiting in front of the funeral hall with a stern expression.
Earlier, Police Chief Yoon Hee-geun also visited the funeral hall around 8:37 p.m. the previous day, paying respects for about 20 minutes and speaking with the family. On the same day, the funeral hall was also visited by Lim Hyun-gyu, the newly appointed chief of Yongsan Police Station, and Jeong Jae-il, chief of Gangbuk Police Station, among others, to offer condolences.
Sergeant Jeong was found dead at his home in Suyu-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, at around 12:45 p.m. the previous day. He was under investigation by the Special Investigation Headquarters for allegedly deleting documents from the work PC of an intelligence officer who had prepared the intelligence report, and for coercing and persuading intelligence division staff during this process.
The Seoul Seongbuk Police Station, which is investigating Sergeant Jeong’s death, is focusing on the possibility of suicide and is verifying the specific circumstances. No suicide note has been found so far.

The Police Agency’s Special Investigation Headquarters, which is investigating the Itaewon disaster, plans to continue the investigation into the head of the Intelligence Division at Yongsan Police Station, who was also booked on the same charges, and Park Seong-min, head of the Public Safety Intelligence and Foreign Affairs Division at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, who is suspected of involvement, separately from Sergeant Jeong’s death.
