Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced that the 'Changwon Woni-daero S-BRT Construction Project' has been approved and announced by Gyeongsangnam-do.
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced that the ‘Changwon Woni-daero S-BRT (Premium Bus Rapid Transit) Construction Project,’ which is being promoted to create a public transportation-centered traffic environment, was approved and announced by Gyeongsangnam-do on the 10th.
The ‘Changwon Woni-daero S-BRT Construction Project,’ selected as a pilot project for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s S-BRT, will install 42 stops in both directions along the 9.3 km section from Dogye Square to Changwon Square to Gaeumjeong Intersection. With a total project cost of 35 billion KRW, it will upgrade facilities, travel speed, punctuality, and transport capacity beyond that of general BRT to provide premium public transportation services.
With the approval of the implementation plan by Gyeongnam Province, construction can begin in December, and as early as December 2023, Changwon will operate the nation’s first S-BRT.
Since Woni-daero is promoted as an S-BRT pilot project, it applies ▲ a dedicated BRT lane completely separated from general traffic lanes (24 hours) ▲ signal priority at intersections linked to bus schedules ▲ level boarding and alighting stops matching the height of low-floor buses ▲ boarding waiting notifications for transportation-vulnerable groups ▲ installation of smart stops at major stations (22 locations) ▲ operation of eco-friendly buses such as electric and hydrogen buses, and was evaluated as ‘Premium Grade’ under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘Technical Standards for Bus Rapid Transit Facilities.’
Accordingly, the city plans to continuously improve services in the future through ▲ Tagless (contactless) fare payment ▲ introduction of articulated buses.
