KOTRA Opens Largest Ever 'Popup Store' in London, UK as Part of 'Export Plus' Initiative
'K-Goods Popup Store' Open from 10th to 13th
Piccadilly Circus with 500,000 Foot Traffic to Host
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] KOTRA announced that it will open the 'K-Goods Pop-up Store' in London, UK, for four days starting from the 10th.
This project is part of the 'O2O (Online to Offline) Korean Excellent Products Exhibition' aimed at strengthening the entry of Korean consumer goods companies into the UK market. In connection with this, KOTRA will implement various export marketing programs such as consumer goods showcase exhibitions, online product halls, online export consultations, and marketing using YouTube.
KOTRA explained that this is the largest-ever consumer goods promotion event with 64 companies participating, held at 'Piccadilly Circus,' the heart and landmark of London. Piccadilly Circus is the largest shopping center in London with a daily foot traffic of about 500,000 people. The pop-up store is located in the main billboard building of Piccadilly Circus, a place that attracts the attention of the British public. KOTRA expects at least 30,000 visitors during the event period.
The store will display and sell various consumer goods including K-beauty products popular in the UK, K-pop goods, and K-food. The sales proceeds will be donated as part of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management activities to local Korean language schools and Korean War veterans associations in the UK.
The event also includes 22 domestic companies with no export experience or no history of exporting to the UK, as well as export beginner companies. These companies will conduct product test sales on-site with KOTRA's support. Given the stricter product certification and export conditions after Brexit, this is expected to be a good opportunity to directly observe British consumers' reactions to Korean consumer goods. Major large-scale distribution buyers and vendors such as Tesco and Amazon UK are invited to provide opportunities for Korean products to enter local distribution channels.
Famous British YouTube creators active in Korea, 'Dan and Joel,' will also participate in the event. With 310,000 YouTube subscribers, Dan and Joel will promote Korean consumer goods displayed at the London pop-up store in collaboration with KOTRA. They will compile British people's reactions to the event into YouTube content.
Promotion activities for the '2030 Busan World Expo' were also conducted. KOTRA set up a Busan Expo promotional space inside the pop-up store to promote the global city of Busan to UK business officials and visitors.
