Professor Kim Sang-min of Korea University Guro Hospital awarded 'Best Oral Presentation' by the Korean Orthopedic Computer Surgery Society
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] Korea University Guro Hospital announced that Professor Sang-min Kim of the Department of Orthopedics won the Best Oral Presentation Award at the '17th CAOS-KOREA Korean Orthopedic Computer Surgery Society Autumn Academic Conference' held on the 29th of last month.
Professor Kim presented a paper titled "Effect of Positive and Negative Body Tape Junction on Corrosion of Modular Revision Stem," which examined the morphological differences in the movable junctions of artificial hip femoral stems and their effects on corrosion, earning him the Best Oral Presentation Award given to the researcher with the most outstanding study.
Professor Kim served as the principal investigator for the "Post-market Clinical Evaluation of the Nation’s First Domestic Modular Artificial Hip Femoral Stem," part of the "2020 Pan-Government Full-cycle Medical Device R&D Project" led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, dedicating three years to clinical trials. This study, conducted jointly with Professor Chung-soo Shin’s research team from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Sogang University, presented biomechanical research results obtained during the clinical trial process. It was evaluated as contributing to extending the lifespan of artificial joints by developing and applying a design for artificial joints that minimizes corrosion in the assembly parts of revision femoral stems, which are mainly used in the increasingly common revision arthroplasty.

Professor Kim stated, "The results of this study will contribute to developing world-class hip artificial joints beyond Korea." He added, "Korea University Guro Hospital is one of the hospitals performing the highest number of revision arthroplasties in the country. Along with clinical care, we will accelerate the development of surgical artificial joints and open a new horizon in revision arthroplasty, which is considered one of the most challenging surgeries in orthopedics," expressing his gratitude and aspirations upon receiving the award.
