Jeju Fire Station Conducts Special Lecture on Firefighting Careers at Jeju Jeil High School
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Jeju Fire Station (Chief Ko Jae-woo) announced on the 8th that it conducted an on-site special lecture on firefighting careers for about 60 students of Jeju Jeil High School.
This education was held in commemoration of the 60th Firefighting Day on November 9th, mourning the sacrifices of young people due to the recent Itaewon tragedy, and aimed to raise early awareness of the importance of safety culture among youth and enable them to perform their roles as future safety leaders through a special lecture on firefighting careers.
The main educational content was conducted in the order of: What is a firefighter?, Aptitude for firefighters, Jeju Fire Department organization and status, the sense of mission of firefighters, and the path to becoming a firefighter.
Chief Ko Jae-woo shared various incident and accident cases he experienced during his 30 years of service as a firefighter and introduced the overall duties that firefighters must perform.
In particular, he emphasized that the important virtues of firefighters include quick situational response and strong physical fitness, a strong spirit of sacrifice and service, cooperation and consideration with colleagues, and leadership from superiors as conditions to become a firefighter.
Chief Ko Jae-woo said, “We will strive to provide many firefighting career experience opportunities for youth to improve safety culture awareness and support them to actively design their careers at a crossroads.”
Meanwhile, Jeju Fire Station operates year-round as a career experience institution under the Ministry of Education’s ‘Kkumgil’ program, providing youth who will lead future society with opportunities to cultivate safety awareness and explore careers to assist in future career planning.
Career experience classes can be applied for through the ‘Kkumgil’ website, and inquiries can be made to the Jeju Fire Station Prevention and Safety Division.
