Hanwha Construction Division to Jointly Develop Offshore Wind Power with Norway's Equinor

View original imageHanwha Corporation's Construction Division announced on the 8th that it has signed a business agreement with Equinor, a Norwegian state-owned energy company, to jointly develop offshore wind power projects in South Korea.
Under this agreement, both companies plan to continuously discuss additional cooperation measures such as joint development and joint investment to successfully carry out the offshore wind power projects promoted by Hanwha Corporation's Construction Division and expand the offshore wind power business.
Equinor has successfully developed numerous fixed offshore wind projects including Dudgeon (402MW), Sheringham Shoal (317MW), and Dogger Bank (3.6GW) in the UK North Sea. It is also a global leader in the floating offshore wind sector, having developed the world's first commercial offshore wind farm, Hywind Scotland (30MW), and the Hywind Tampen (88MW), scheduled for completion this year.
Kim Seung-mo, CEO of Hanwha Corporation's Construction Division, said, "We expect synergy effects such as business expansion and improved profitability through cooperation with Equinor, a global leader in the offshore wind sector," adding, "We plan to focus on renewable energy fields such as onshore and offshore wind power projects in preparation for the carbon-zero era and leap forward as a 'Green Infrastructure Developer.'"
The signing ceremony held the previous day at the Hanwha Building in Janggyo-dong, Seoul, was attended by Kim Seung-mo, CEO of Hanwha Corporation's Construction Division, Lee Nam-chul, Head of the Wind Power Business Division, Lim Jin-gyu, Head of Planning Office, Jens Aukland, Vice President of Renewable Energy Business Development at Equinor, Lars Nodli, Executive of Renewable Energy Asia Business Development, and Jacques Etienne Michel, CEO of the Korean branch, along with other executives from both companies.

Meanwhile, Hanwha Corporation's Construction Division plans to develop a total of 2GW scale wind power complexes by 2030. Its representative ongoing project is the Sinan Ui offshore wind power project, and it is promoting onshore and offshore wind power projects in regions including Boryeong, Goheung, Yeonggwang, Yangyang, Yeongcheon, and Yeongwol.
