Macron: "US and China Must Step Up Climate Change Support for Developing Countries"
"Climate Change Crisis Response, Wealthy Countries Must Share Fairly"
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] French President Emmanuel Macron said on the 7th (local time) that wealthy non-European countries such as the United States and China should fairly share the burden so that poor countries can respond to climate change.
President Macron met with environmental activist groups operating in Africa in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, where the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP27) is being held, and said, "Europe is paying its share," according to foreign media reports.
At COP27, measures for developed countries to compensate developing countries suffering from the climate change crisis are expected to be discussed.
In a briefing held ahead of the two-day COP27 summit starting that day, President Macron also emphasized that "the United States and China must step up" to reduce carbon emissions and financially assist poor countries.
