View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] POSCO A&C announced on the 7th that it has been selected as the preferred negotiation partner for the 'Sejong 6-3 Living Zone Integrated Public Rental Housing (UR1·UR2)' project, the largest modular housing project in Korea.
This project involves constructing 416 units in four buildings, each seven stories high, using modular construction methods. It is the largest housing project by number of units in Korea, commissioned by Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) and constructed by the Gyeryong Construction consortium.
Modular housing is built using a steel frame structure that is resistant to earthquakes, with 70-80% of materials and components such as walls, windows, electrical wiring, plumbing, bathrooms, and kitchen fixtures pre-manufactured in factories and then assembled and installed on-site using Off-Site Construction (OSC) methods. Compared to traditional concrete construction, this method reduces carbon and waste emissions during the construction phase and is regarded as an innovative housing solution that overcomes challenges in the construction industry such as low productivity, labor shortages, safety, and quality issues.
