Wando-gun Secures $5.3 Million Seafood Export Agreement at Busan International Fisheries Expo
Agreed to Export Processed Products of Jeonbok, Gwang-eo, and Seaweed to the US and Taiwan

View original image[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do participated in the '2022 Busan International Fisheries Expo,' one of Asia's top three comprehensive fisheries exhibitions, from the 2nd to the 5th, promoting the excellence of clean sea Wando seafood. Three local companies signed export agreements worth a total of 5.3 million USD with companies from the United States and Taiwan.
The county operated a joint promotional booth with seven local companies to promote and sell seafood at the expo. They also participated in consultation meetings targeting domestic MDs, export consultation meetings inviting overseas buyers, and special sales through Naver live broadcasts.
In particular, three companies?Wando Sarang S&F, Haeseong International, and Haecheongjeong?signed three export agreements (totaling 5.3 million USD) with companies based in the United States and Taiwan. They have entered into discussions to export processed products such as abalone, flatfish, and seaweed within this year.
The seven companies participating in the joint promotional booth were Wando Sarang S&F, Haeseong International, Haecheongjeong, Wando Segyero Fisheries, Wando Da Fishery Corporation, Daehan Trading, and Nuri Abalone Cooperative Corporation.
These seven companies showcased processed abalone and seaweed products such as abalone fried rice, flatfish porridge, seaweed salad, abalone chowder, abalone gambas, seaweed noodles, seasoned abalone, and sliced abalone.
In addition to the joint booth, more than 15 local companies and organizations operated individual booths, and the Korea Abalone Industry Association sold live abalone to promote Wando seafood.
Wando abalone, raised on kelp and seaweed from the clean sea, contains abundant vitamins, iron, calcium, potassium, and protein, earning it the nickname "Ginseng of the Sea" and regarded as the best health food.
Notably, research results showing that abalone viscera and seaweed extracts are effective in inhibiting the proliferation of the COVID-19 virus were published in Marine Drugs, a globally authoritative academic journal in the field of marine pharmaceuticals.
Meanwhile, the Busan International Fisheries Expo serves as a business opportunity venue for exports through exchanges with domestic and international fisheries buyers, experts, and distribution officials, and Wando-gun participates annually.
A county official stated, "We will continue to strive to contribute to the promotion of excellent export company products in our county and the increase of export performance through participation and support in international exhibitions."
