Twitter Korea also faces 'Musk-induced' layoff chill... hurriedly starts job hunting
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] After Tesla CEO Elon Musk acquired Twitter and implemented large-scale layoffs, it has been confirmed that a significant number of Twitter Korea employees have also received termination notices.
According to industry sources on the 6th, about 50% of the approximately 30 Twitter Korea employees were classified as layoff targets, and on the 4th, layoff emails were initially sent to about 25% of the staff. In particular, it is reported that the entire Public Relations (PR) team received layoff notices.
An executive at Twitter Korea stated on their Twitter account, "People faced a situation where they could not access their emails in staggered shifts, and finally, when they received their personal emails, they found out whether they were laid off."
Some employees who received layoff notices are reportedly seeking new jobs through business social networking services (SNS) such as LinkedIn.
Earlier, on the 27th of last month, Musk completed the acquisition of Twitter and began large-scale layoffs starting with the existing management, including CEO Parag Agrawal. The layoff target is 3,700 employees, which corresponds to 50% of the workforce.
On the 4th, when Musk carried out the layoffs, he tweeted, "The company is losing more than $4 million (5.6 billion KRW) a day, so there is no choice," adding, "Everyone leaving was given three months' pay, which is 50% more than the legally required two months."
There is also strong backlash against the layoff policy. Twitter headquarters employees filed a class-action lawsuit on the 3rd (local US time). In the complaint, they claimed that Twitter violated US labor law, which requires at least 60 days' notice before layoffs.

Internal confusion due to changes in the work system is also intensifying. According to foreign media, Musk recently demanded a "24-hour work system" from Twitter employees. He also removed company-wide holidays and abolished the remote work system. As internal turmoil continues, major multinational companies are joining the "de-Twitter" movement. Foreign media reported that global pharmaceutical company Pfizer and automobile company Audi have temporarily suspended paid advertising on Twitter.
