On the 6th, Chairman Lee visited the condolence room set up at CJ Talent Institute in Pildong, Jung-gu, Seoul, around 9 a.m. together with his mother, former Leeum Museum Director Hong Ra-hee, to pay his respects. Despite the early hour, he was the first among the relatives to arrive as soon as the condolence visit began.
The deceased was married to the late Lee Maeng-hee, honorary chairman of CJ and eldest son of Hoam Lee Byung-chul, the founder of Samsung Group, serving as the eldest daughter-in-law of the Samsung family. She had three children: Lee Jae-hyun, chairman of CJ Group; Lee Mi-kyung, vice chairman; and Lee Jae-hwan, chairman of Jaesan Holdings. It is well known that the late founder Lee Byung-chul especially cherished her as the eldest daughter-in-law.

In 1994, she separated Cheil Jedang from the Samsung family by exchanging her shares in Anguk Fire & Marine Insurance for shares in Cheil Jedang owned by the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee. In 2012, there were successive inheritance lawsuits between the late honorary chairman Lee Maeng-hee and Chairman Lee Kun-hee over the assets left by the late Samsung founder Lee Byung-chul, which caused longstanding tensions between CJ and Samsung until recently.
