View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] The People Power Party has decided to form the 'Itaewon Accident Investigation and Safety Measures Special Committee' to determine the causes of the Itaewon tragedy and establish measures to prevent recurrence.
According to the People Power Party on the 4th, the party's Emergency Response Committee plans to approve the formation plan at the meeting on the 7th and launch the Itaewon Accident Special Committee.
The chairperson will be Representative Lee Man-hee, a former police officer and the ruling party's secretary of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee, and the vice-chairperson will be Representative Park Hyung-soo, a member of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee.
Committee members include Representative Cho Eun-hee from the Public Administration and Security Committee, Representative Seo Beom-su from the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, Representative Jeong Hee-yong from the Special Budget and Accounts Committee, and Representative Choi Yeon-sook from the Health and Welfare Committee. Professor Shin Ui-jin from Yonsei University College of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health, and former Central Fire Academy Director Je Jin-ju will also join the special committee. Considering that many of the victims of this tragedy were young people, Emergency Response Committee member Kim Byung-min was also included.
After its launch, the Itaewon Accident Special Committee plans to hold its first meeting and coordinate schedules such as visiting the joint memorial altar site.
