Fled in Father's Car in Cheonan
Apprehended at Dangjin Internet Cafe After Four Hours
Another incident involving elementary school students stealing and fleeing in a vehicle has occurred in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province. It has been confirmed that one of the students was also involved in a vehicle theft case that took place in Cheonan a week ago.
According to Yonhap News on May 20, at approximately 8:17 a.m. that day, the police received a 112 emergency call from an apartment in Dongnam-gu, Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, reporting that "my son stole the car and ran away."
Police investigations found that Student A (age 12), along with his peer Student B, drove away in A's father's passenger car at around 6:30 a.m. that morning.
The vehicle they took was found at around 9:50 a.m. in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province. However, at the time of discovery, Student A and the others had already abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
While tracing their whereabouts, the police found and apprehended Student A and Student B at an internet cafe in Eumnae-dong, Dangjin, at around 10:20 a.m. It has been reported that there were no particular accidents during their journey from Cheonan to Dangjin.
It was determined that Student B was the one driving the vehicle. Student B had previously been among the students apprehended by the police a week ago in Cheonan, after riding in a stolen car that a friend had taken during a previous elementary school vehicle theft incident.
