Busan Office of Education Hosts 'This Year's High School Students Reading Debate Festival' ... 70 Students from 35 Schools Participate
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will hold the "This Year's High School Students' Reading Debate Festival" event on the 5th at 8:30 AM in the International Seminar Room and classrooms of Dongseo University, targeting 70 high school students.
The event, now in its 8th year, will proceed in three stages: ▲1st Roundtable Debate ▲2nd Roundtable Debate ▲3-on-3 CEDA Debate.
The 1st and 2nd debates will be non-competitive, while the 3rd will be conducted competitively.
The participating students were selected by their schools from among 210 students who took part in the "High School Students' Reading Debate Camp" last August. Due to COVID-19, there will be no external spectators; students eliminated in the 1st and 2nd rounds will observe the remaining debates.
The 1st roundtable debate will be conducted with 10 groups of 7 students each. The students will read the designated books, Discomfort Convenience Store (Kim Ho-yeon) and I Am a Pharmacist in Auschwitz (Patricia Posner), and debate the topic "Can we endure discomfort for communication?"
The 2nd debate will be held with 30 representatives selected from the 1st debate.
In this debate, six groups of five students each will discuss the topic "Should we remember the pains of the past? Or should we forget and move forward to the future?"
The 3-on-3 CEDA debate will be held with a total of 12 outstanding students selected from the 2nd debate.
Participants will be divided into two teams of six and simultaneously conduct a CEDA pro-con debate on the topic "The main cause of individual change lies externally" at two locations, selecting the best and excellent debaters for each team.
