Sweat and 'Geomdaengi' on Their Foreheads... Busan Yeonje High School's Warm Sharing Like 'Yeontan' for 8 Years
Students and Teachers Raise 3.58 Million Won to Donate 4,480 Briquettes for Elderly Living Alone This Winter
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The faces of high school students were stained black. Their hands, covered in briquette soot, wiped the sweat from their foreheads, and their clumsy efforts only resulted in more soot.
On October 29, Busan Yeonje High School held a "Love Briquette Delivery" event for elderly people living alone near the school.
Yeonje High School students, parents, and staff collected donations to purchase briquettes. They also delivered them personally. This volunteer activity has been ongoing for eight years.
This year, the amount raised was 3,584,000 won, more than double last year's, and 4,480 briquettes were donated to the Busan Briquette Bank.
On that day, about 40 people, including 33 students, the principal, vice principal, and five supervising teachers, visited the elderly's homes. They completed the delivery of about 1,400 briquettes, hoping they would have a warm winter.
