"Power Hitter" Nelly Korda: "Adding 10 Yards Is Easy"
Titleist TSi1 to TSR1 Replacement, Loft Adjusted from 10° to 9°
Launch Angle from 12° to 11.5°, Ball Speed from 152mph to 154mph
[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] Nelly Korda (USA, photo), ranked 4th in the world, is a long hitter.
This year, her average drive shot distance is 270.83 yards (16th place). Korda changed her driver last month. She switched from the Titleist TSi1 to the TSR1. It was a choice to increase distance. Korda explained, "The previous model was also a really good driver and brought me a lot of success, but I needed a change."
Korda maintained a spin rate of 3200?3300 rpm with the TSi1 driver. This is a figure that makes it difficult to gain additional roll after landing on the fairway. While testing the TSR1, Korda changed the loft she previously used from 10 degrees to 9 degrees. With a slight adjustment, she reduced the spin rate by 400 rpm. The launch angle was lowered from 12 degrees to 11.5 degrees, and the ball speed increased from 152 mph to 154 mph. As a result, the distance increased by 10 yards (to 290 yards).
"The flight trajectory of the TSi1 driver was good, but the spin was a bit high," Korda said. "With the TSR1 driver, I was able to reduce spin, so I secured similar carry and more roll," she added, expressing satisfaction with the "good results from a simple adjustment."
