Gwangju Police Prevent 'Second Itaewon Disaster'... Inspecting High-Density Gathering Facilities
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Gwangju Police will conduct safety inspections on facilities expected to have large crowds following the recent 'Itaewon crush accident' that resulted in many casualties.
Gwangju Police Agency announced on the 1st that it plans to carry out preemptive safety inspections on more than 20 facilities over two weeks from the 31st of this month to the 11th of next month.
They plan to select locations where large-scale rallies, demonstrations, or mass gatherings frequently occur and use four types of safety inspection equipment to identify geographic and physical vulnerabilities in order to establish safety measures.
Facilities identified as vulnerable will be notified to the facility owners and event organizers, and a database will be created for continuous management.
In particular, since large-scale street cheering events related to this year's Qatar World Cup are expected, they intend to thoroughly prepare for safety accidents at World Cup stadiums and other venues.
