Korea Radioactive Waste Agency Hosts the 8th International Symposium on Radioactive Waste Safety Management
The Korea Radioactive Waste Agency announced on the 2nd that it will hold the "8th International Symposium on Radioactive Waste Safety Management" at the Gyeongju Hwabaek Convention Center from the 10th to the 11th.
The agency explained that the symposium is being held to discuss major policies such as the implementation plan for the 2nd Basic Plan for High-Level Radioactive Waste Management and the implementation plan for the high-level radioactive waste research and development (R&D) roadmap.
Under the theme "A Leap Forward for the Future of High-Level Radioactive Waste Safety Management," the event on the 10th will feature keynote speeches and discussions on high-level radioactive waste safety management measures from major countries including Finland.
On the 11th, the current status of high-level radioactive waste management projects by leading waste management companies from Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, and others will be introduced, followed by discussions on ways to enhance public acceptance. A special session will then be held to discuss the high-level radioactive waste technology development roadmaps of Korea, Finland, France, and Switzerland.

Cha Seong-su, Chairman of the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency, said, "This symposium hosted by the agency is a gathering of domestic and international experts for the implementation of high-level radioactive waste management policies, securing safe technologies, and communication," adding, "It will be an opportunity to share excellent overseas cases regarding our major issue of high-level radioactive waste management."
