No Tax Obligation Exceptions... Gyeongnam Province Collects 150 Million Won from Foreign Delinquent Taxpayers
Vehicle License Plate Seizure and Property Seizure for Delinquent Payments, Public Disclosure of November List Scheduled
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gyeongsangnam-do collected 150 million KRW from 1,206 foreign local tax delinquents.
Gyeongnam Province announced on the 1st that from September to October, it conducted a joint campaign with cities and counties to thoroughly collect delinquent local taxes from foreigners in the province.
For foreign delinquents, measures such as ▲residence verification and sending delinquency notices ▲seizure of vehicle license plates were used to encourage tax payment.
For 619 delinquents, enforcement actions such as property seizure were implemented.
According to the province, as of the end of 2021, the outstanding delinquent amount carried over from foreigners was 2.2 billion KRW.
Automobile tax and local income tax accounted for 76.8% of the total delinquent amount, and as of the end of October, a total of 580 million KRW had been collected.
Since October, the province has been strengthening on-site collection efforts with cities and counties to focus on collecting from high-amount and habitual delinquents owing more than 10 million KRW, and plans to implement administrative sanctions such as public disclosure of delinquent lists in November.

Shim Sangcheol, head of the Taxation Division, said, “We will make foreigners aware that tax obligations have no exceptions and will pursue collection to the end to realize tax justice.”
