Middle School Teacher Subject Appointment Competition Rate 7.7 to 1
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The nationwide competition rate for the 2023 academic year secondary, non-subject, and special education teacher new appointment exams recorded 8.0 to 1.
On the 27th, the Ministry of Education compiled the application status for the secondary, non-subject, and special education teacher new appointment exams announced by metropolitan and provincial offices of education. A total of 48,784 applicants applied for 6,094 positions (6,137 including separate recruitment for persons with disabilities), with an average competition rate of 8 to 1 (7.9 to 1 including separate recruitment for persons with disabilities).
The competition rate for the 2022 academic year appointment was an average of 7.0 to 1 nationwide, but this year the number of planned recruits decreased by 1,366, causing the competition rate to rise.
The number of recruits for secondary school teachers (subject) for the 2023 academic year is a total of 4,906. A total of 37,960 applicants applied for the secondary subject teacher appointment exam, resulting in a competition rate of 7.7 to 1.
Among the competition rates for secondary subject teacher appointment exams, Chinese (18.2 to 1) was the highest, followed by Environment (15.5 to 1), Cooking (13.1 to 1), Music (12.4 to 1), and Beauty (12.1 to 1). Among major subjects, History (10.8 to 1) and Korean Language (10.5 to 1) were high.
For non-subject areas, the number of recruits is 392 for Health, 43 for Librarian, 243 for Professional Counseling, and 310 for Nutrition. The number of applicants was 3,025, 716, 2,460, and 2,051 respectively.
The competition rates for non-subject appointment exams were 16.5 to 1 for librarian teachers, 14.6 to 1 for special education teachers, 10.1 to 1 for professional counseling, 7.7 to 1 for health, and 6.6 to 1 for nutrition.
For secondary special education teachers, 2,922 applicants applied for 200 positions, resulting in a competition rate of 14.6 to 1.

In the Seoul area, the competition rate recorded 8.53 to 1, down from 9.81 to 1 the previous year. Gyeonggi-do, which recruits the largest number of people, recorded a competition rate of 7.4 to 1. Daegu (11.7 to 1) and Gwangju (13.0 to 1) greatly exceeded the national average, while Incheon (7.1 to 1), Ulsan (7.0 to 1), and Jeju (6.2 to 1) were relatively low.
