'2022 Hanguk Geonchuk Munhwa Daesang Awards Ceremony' Held at Nodeul Island
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Kim] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 25th that it will hold the '2022 Korea Architecture Culture Awards' ceremony on the 26th at Nodeulseom, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
This year's Korea Architecture Culture Awards were divided into five categories: ▲Buildings (public, private, residential), ▲Promotion of Architectural Culture, ▲Emerging Architects, ▲Student Design Competition, and ▲Architectural Culture Person of the Year.
For the Buildings category, only buildings completed before December 31, 2021, were eligible to apply in order to reflect the maintenance status of the buildings and users' opinions in the evaluation.
The Promotion of Architectural Culture and Architectural Culture Person of the Year categories selected recipients who have introduced good architecture to the public and contributed to the development of architecture through fields such as film, broadcasting, writing, and academia.
The Grand Prize in the Public category was awarded to Singil Middle School, which was praised for proposing a new type of school that enhances students' creativity and diversity by featuring a unique roof shape resembling a detached house among high-rise apartments and providing various outdoor spaces easily accessible from classrooms.
The Grand Prize in the Private category went to Naver 1784, which received high evaluation for integrating new technologies expected to be activated in the near future into the space, such as controlling lighting and ventilation via smartphones and installing a robot-exclusive elevator.
The Grand Prize in the Residential category was awarded to Sejong Hanshin The Hue Reserve I, which was highly praised for its design that harmonizes with nature through shared courtyards and rooftop greening, and creates spaces for neighborhood interaction by linking landscaped areas with resting spaces and workshops.
The Grand Prize in the Emerging Architects category was given to Jongam Square, a project that designed cultural and sports facilities for residents in the idle space under an elevated highway, recognized as a work that highlights the architect's flexibility and experimental nature.
The newly established Promotion of Architectural Culture category awarded the Grand Prize to Jeong Daun and Kim Jongsin, co-CEOs of the architectural video and film production company ‘Girin Geurim’.
Additionally, the 'Architectural Culture Person of the Year Award,' which selects individuals with outstanding contributions dedicated to the field of architecture, was awarded to CEO Lee Taegyu of Myungshin.
The Student Design Competition Grand Prize was awarded to Lee Juhyun of Kyung Hee University, who proposed changes in urban structure in response to the commercialization of urban air mobility, creatively suggesting directions for changes in urban architecture in future transportation.
