[Asia Economy Reporter Han Yeju] LG Electronics announced on the 24th that it has been selected as a 'Laboratory of Excellence' in the international proficiency testing for the air sector organized by the Environmental Resource Association (ERA) in the United States.
ERA is an international proficiency testing organization recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/IEC), evaluating the analytical capabilities and accuracy and reliability of results for pollutants in environmental fields such as air, water quality, and soil. In particular, companies or institutions that receive a 'satisfactory' rating in all test items are recognized as 'Laboratories of Excellence.'
In this evaluation, LG Electronics received a 'satisfactory' rating in all 10 air sector items, including heavy metals (copper, zinc, lead, nickel, cadmium, chromium), volatile organic compounds (benzene, ethylbenzene, styrene), and hydrogen chloride, proving that it possesses global-level analytical capabilities for air pollutants.
Earlier, in June, LG Electronics was judged as 'suitable for proficiency testing and field evaluation in the air sector' by the National Institute of Environmental Research under the Ministry of Environment. Following this, being selected as a 'Laboratory of Excellence' in the international proficiency testing further enhances the reliability and credibility of its air pollutant analysis capabilities.
Based on the credibility recognized domestically and internationally, LG Electronics plans to strengthen management to not only self-check and monitor the emission concentrations of air pollutants at each business site but also to prevent environmental accidents in advance.
Furthermore, it intends to reduce air pollutants generated during the production process. To this end, it established an Environmental Pollutants Test Lab within LG Digital Park in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province last year and is conducting research to monitor air pollutant emission concentrations and ensure measurement reliability.
