[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The police have sent a current police officer suspected of stealing a parked vehicle, causing a hit-and-run accident, and fleeing the scene to prosecution.
On the 21st, the Mapo Police Station in Seoul announced that on the 18th, they sent 30-year-old Police Officer A, affiliated with the Yeonsu Police Station in Incheon, who is accused of theft, to prosecution. However, investigations are still ongoing regarding charges of violating the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (hit-and-run causing injury) and failure to take action after an accident under the Road Traffic Act. The police are also reportedly investigating suspicions of drunk driving by Officer A.
Officer A is accused of stealing a parked vehicle on a road in Seogyo-dong, Mapo-gu, at around 11:55 p.m. on the 9th of last month during the Chuseok holiday, driving it for about 10 minutes, then crashing into a taxi near Hapjeong Station and fleeing the scene. The taxi driver is reported to have sustained minor injuries from the accident.
